description

I created this comic-style patient education poster about “the lazy ovary,” also known as primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), to raise awareness about this often-overlooked condition. I first heard the term on an old episode of Sex and the City, where Miranda was told she had one. Curious, I researched it and was surprised to find limited accessible information.

This inspired me to blend my comic-style illustrations with medical knowledge to create an educational resource that is clear, approachable, and free of overwhelming medical jargon. I also chose to include comical elements within the poster scenes to make a sensitive subject more relatable and easier to engage with. My goal is to provide information on symptoms and complications while encouraging open conversations with healthcare providers.

It’s vital for women to advocate for their reproductive health, especially since conditions like endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and ovarian cysts are often dismissed. Early recognition of these issues can prevent serious complications.

Through this comic poster, I hope to empower women with knowledge, spark conversations, and encourage them to seek medical advice. Every woman deserves to have her health concerns heard and addressed.

Primary Ovarian Insufficency

POI occurs when the ovaries stop functioning properly before age 40, leading to reduced estrogen levels, irregular periods, and often infertility. While the cause is often unknown, factors like genetic conditions, autoimmune disorders, or toxins may play a role.

I experimented with a few layouts using rough sketches and adjusted the title and font choices before creating a detailed line prototype. Afterward, I made further refinements before proceeding to the final rendering.
