About Me

(Illustrator & Animator)
Nicole Cherry
Hi, I’m Nicole Cherry, a biomedical and scientific visualization specialist based in beautiful Vancouver, BC, Canada. I’m honoured to live and work on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
My passion lies in blending traditional art, illustration, graphic design, and animation to visually communicate complex scientific topics. I thrive on diving into new challenges, embracing the unknown, and getting to the heart of intricate processes, diseases, or systems. My goal? To translate these complexities into visuals that anyone can understand. After all, what’s the purpose of science if it’s not being communicated effectively to all?
For 13 years, I honed my skills in business development analytics, creating data-driven stories through interactive dashboards and reports. While rewarding, my true passions for scientific visualization and fine art kept calling. So, I decided to pursue them full-time, combining my lifelong love for medicine and science with my natural artistic abilities. My educational journey includes:
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from the University of Victoria
- Two years of post-degree pre-medical studies
- Communication Certificate in Graphic Design from BCIT & Emily Carr
- Certificate in Biomedical Visualization and Communication (BMVC) from the University of British Columbia
As a lifelong learner, I’m excited to be starting a diploma in 2D animation in spring 2025, set to graduate in fall 2026. This will further enhance my ability to create in-depth 2D animations. Beyond my formal education, I’m a certified pain coach with Pain BC, using my experience to help others managing chronic pain. I also volunteer as an educator on bone health and as a speaker on living with multiple fractures for Osteoporosis Canada.
I’m passionate about collaborating with nonprofit organizations, medical professionals, online journals, publications, and PhD students. I often volunteer my services to those who might find them otherwise unaffordable or out of reach. For me, the greatest fulfillment comes from providing service to others while continuously learning, researching, and growing. Let’s explore how we can illustrate, animate, and create biomedical art in innovative and ethical ways!
Let’s Work Together!
